Grilled Cheddar Burgers

Grilled Cheddar Burgers with Green Chiles and Grilled Red Onions is one of my favorite burgers. The combination of flavors is amazing; you are going to love this.

I ask, who doesn't enjoy a great grilled burger? Well I certainly hope you enjoy a good burger as much as I do! This easy recipe is sure to please. Starts with top quality ground sirloin and you will have a winner every time.

The next "fun day" you plan with your family and friends, start up the grill and treat them to this wonderful burger. Your guests will be impressed. It is truly wonderful.

Grilled Cheddar Burgers with
Green Chiles & Grilled Red Onions

Dale and Thomas Popcorn
2 pounds ground sirloin
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp chipotle chile powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
6 Ciabbata Roles
6 - 12 Slices sharp cheddar cheese
1 large red onion
Olive Oil
Romaine Lettuce
2 - 7 oz cans whole green chiles
Mayonnaise

  • Mix the salt, pepper, chile & garlic powders
    and paprika. Set aside. Slice red onions about
    1/2 inch thick, drizzle with olive oil.
  • Divide ground sirloin into 6 patties. Season
    both sides spice mixture. Cover with plastic wrap,
    set out for 20 minutes.
  • Start your grill,heat for 15 minutes.

  • When grill is hot, place burgers on grill.
    Cook 4-5 minutes, rotating half way through
    cook time to get grill marks. Flip burger, cook
    another 4-5 minutes, rotating again. Cooked to
    medium-rare. During last 2 minutes, put a piece
    of the green chile on the buger & top with 1 or 2
    cheese slices. Close lid on grill, allow cheese to melt.
  • When burgers are done, let rest 5 minutes on
    serving platter.
  • Carefully place onion slices on grill after you
    put the burgers on, cook 2-3 minutes per side.


  • During last minute, split ciabatta rolls down
    middle, toast on grill, about 1 minute. Spread
    mayo on each side of the bun, put lettuce
    on bottom bun and top with the fantastic burger.


  • This is DELICIOUS and grilled to perfection.
    Your dinner guests are going to love this burger.

    Variations:

  • Provolone, Monterey Jack, or White Cheddar are equally
    tasty with this burger.
  • You can substitute diced green chiles...best to put
    them on the bottom bun, cover with the lettuce, this way
    you don't lose them when you take a bit!
  • You can use a sweet onion in place of a red onion
  • Use regular chile powder if you don't have Chipotle
    chile powder in the pantry.
