Garlic Burgers

These grilled Garlic Burgers with sweet onions are fantastic. Don't worry, the garlic is not so overpowering that you will be concerned about your breath!! Subtle enough to enhance the burger and complement the sweet onions,
truly wonderful.

The secret ingredient is adding some half & half to the lean ground beef. Lean ground beef has so little fat; by adding a liquid you don't lose the juicy quality expected from a good grilled burger.

So fire up the grill.....you are going to love this one!

Grilled Garlic Burgers with
Sweet Onions & Provolone

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
4 slices provolone cheese
1/4 cup finely diced sweet onions
2 tsps cream or half & half
2 - 3 garlic cloves minced
kosher salt & pepper
4 hamburger buns
Lettuce, Tomatoes, Mayo

  • Dice onion very fine, place in bowl. Mince garlic,
    mix with onions. Set aside.
  • Divide meat into four burgers, place on cutting
board. Gently press down to flatten, place 1/4 of
garlic/onion mixture on top of each burger. Drizzle
each burger with 1/2 tsp. half & half. Gently work
in the ingredients, kind of like kneading dough.
    Mold patty's.
  • Season with salt and generously season with
pepper. A heavier coating of pepper is very tasty.
Cover with plastic wrap, set out for 20 minutes.
  • If time allows, put back in refrigerator for
1-3 hours to allow flavors to marinate. Set out
    for 20 minutes before cooking.
  • Start grill, heat about 15 minutes. When grill is
hot, place burgers on grill. Cook 4-5 minutes. Flip,
cook another 4-5 minutes. Top with cheese last
2 minutes of cook time. Cooked to medium-rare.

  • Remove burgers, place on serving platter, rest 5
minutes. You want the juices to re-distribute. Garnish
    with mayo, lettuce and tomato.

  • Wasn't that an easy recipe?
    The garlic is just right!

Variations: Stick with a mild cheese; white cheddar would be nice. Gruyere is a mild cheese that melts nicely and Havarti is also wonderful with burgers.

Cook's Note: Add 2 minutes per side to cook to medium,
another 2 minutes for well done. Time will vary depending on
your grill and how big you make a burger. Enjoy this recipe!
